About This Teach-Out
Democracy shapes the decisions that affect our communities and day-to-day lives, yet many people have misconceptions about how our system of government actually works. By understanding both the strengths and vulnerabilities of our democracy, you'll be better equipped to recognize how informed participation, strong institutions, and everyday action work to protect and support it.
In the Democracy and Civic Engagement Teach-Out®, learn how democracy works in practice. Examine how governments, elections, laws, information, and civic participation shape public life. Consider how trust, accountability, and shared institutions support healthy democracies. Through evidence-based perspectives and real-world examples, you'll gain a better understanding of how corruption, misinformation, political division, and the misuse of power can weaken democratic systems and harm communities globally.
