Ratings and Reviews for Introduction to Data Science in Python

This course serves more as a 'test' for those quite experienced with pandas than an actual educational course. The main issue is that it would be extremely difficult to complete this just with the course materials. You really need to spend a lot of time on stack overflow and with the recommended textbook to make any progress unless you are already quite familiar with pandas. It is then fair to ask - what is the point of the course? What value does it actually add? The content difficulty isn't the issue its the fact that there is little support from the course in completing the assignments. The content is essentially a whistle stop tour through pandas followed by some tough quizzes and labs with little feedback for when/if you go wrong. I'm really surprised at how high the other ratings are (look at how many go onto the complete the specialization to see a truer reflection!). Again I don't think it is the difficulty per se, there are other courses on this site which cover quite challenging topics (ML, Deep Learning etc...) that do so a lot better than this course. If you have done one to compare against its unlikely you’d give this 5*s. Instead of doing this course I’d either recommend going directly to the source and read the pandas textbook by the actual author of pandas to get started or do various Kaggle challenges if you want some practical challenges. The only thing this course provides value wise is the certificate.

Very good course and I'm glad that I chose to take it. It was very well developed and I learned a lot. I can't wait to finish the second course and start learning about Machine Learning!

Autograder in week 4 assigment could be improved

For future tech or CS courses from U Mich, please follow Dr Charles Severance's approach in teaching. Make learning and wanting to learn truly enjoyable. Teach material that will be tested in assignments and not throw curve balls which lead students to google answers and 'stack overflow' it unnecessarily. This course is not for beginners or for those that have just picked up programming. The autograder system is a real pain in the butt. A lot of time is wasted just to conform and present the answer that the autograder will accept.

Some parts are "difficult" but worthy to learn! Recommended 100%

The content is excellent (useful material and instructive assignments). I would have given it a 5 if I hadn't wasted a lot of time on mistakes/ambiguities in the assignment instructions, autograder rounding errors, etc.

Awesome course. The lectures are very good. One thing that I liked a lot is that they taught regular expression which is very helpful in processing strings. Also, the assignments are very tough and if you can solve them correctly (not hard coding, and by yourself), it will boost your confidence a lot. And please remember this course is not for beginners. If you have basic knowledge of Python (list, dictionary, function, list comprehension, etc), it won't be that tough.
